Qiushuo Feng is a PhD student at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. He received his BSc in Horticulture at Zhejiang University, China, and a Master in Oenology and Viticulture at the University of Adelaide, Australia.
His research focuses on grapevine physiological and metabolic responses to water stress. Large scale transcript and metabolite analysis will be used to understand the moleculal mechanism underlying grapevine in drought conditions. In particular, he will characterize the effect of deficit irrigation on the berry quality and how different grapevine varieties respond to this treatment. The goal is to explore the genetic mechanisms that underlie drought tolerance in grapevine plants, identify drought-tolerant cultivars, and develop deficit irrigation strategies to improve berry and wine quality.
